Jordan Sibert, the University of Dayton Flyers defeated the St. Bonaventure Bonnies 75-61 at a sold-out UD Arena on Saturday.
Dyshawn Pierre added his fourth double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Flyers, who are now 19-5 overall and tied for first place in the Atlantic 10 at 9-3.Â
Kyle Davis and
Scoochie Smith added 13 and 10 points respectively, with Smith adding five assists.
Dayton is now 13-0 at home this season and has won 18 straight home games dating back to last year.
The Flyers had an assist on their first twelve field goals in the game.
St. Bonaventure made the first basket of the game on a Dion Wright layup. The Flyers then went on an 8-0 run and would extend the lead to 28-16 with just under seven minutes to play in the first half. However, the Bonnies would respond by going on a 10-2 run to cut the lead to four with a little over three minutes to play before halftime.  That would be as close as the visitors would get. A
Kyle Davis layup brought the lead back to six. Moments later, Sibert was fouled as time expired and converted both of his free throws to give Dayton a 35-27 lead going into the half.
The Flyers were limited to six players in the second half of action.
Kendall Pollard suffered an injury with about five minutes remaining in the first half and did not play in the second half. Despite only playing six players, Dayton shot very well in the second half. The home team shot 55% from the floor and 50% from the three-point line.
Foul trouble threatened to stall Dayton in the second half, but with Sibert playing seven minutes at the four spot and freshman
Darrell Davis playing the best floor game of his young college career (three assists, zero turnovers and two steals to go with six points in 27 minutes), UD maintained a double-digit lead for the game's final 14:47.Â
A big key to the win was the defense of
Kyle Davis. Davis guarded Bonnie guard Marcus Posley to start the game, and held the A-10's fifth-leading scorer to just two points in the first half. Then, after first-time starter Iakeem Alston scored nine by halftime, Davis was switched to him in the second half. Alston could only managed two points in the final 20 minutes.
St. Bonaventure was led by seven-foot center Youssou Ndoye, who had 16 points and 12 rebounds. The Bonnies fall to 13-10 overall and 6-6 in the A-10.
The Flyers are at home again on Thursday, when they meet Saint Joseph's in a rare 6 p.m. ET start. That game will be televised on ESPNU.
