HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The University of Dayton men's golf team concluded its second round of the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Tournament in Hilton Head, South Carolina, on Tuesday afternoon. The third round was canceled because of weather restrictions.
UD wrapped up the 36-hole tournament in 19th place as a team (329+318=647). Dayton's top finisher was senior George Rhode III, whose two-day total of 14-over-par was good for a tie for 62nd place.
Next on the leader board for the Flyers were sophomore
Nick Paxson and freshman P.J Malik, who both shot +17 and tied for 77th place. Redshirt junior
Thomas Goss finished tied for 90th at 24-over-par and freshman
Erron Vandemore completed the rounds in 93rd place at +26.
Four out of five Flyers saw improvement from their first rounds to their second rounds. While Rhode, III shot seven over both rounds (79-79), Paxson improved by five strokes (83-78), Goss by two (85-83), Malik by three (82-79), and Vandemore improved by six strokes (88-82) from round one to round two.
Wofford College took home the top team honors, shooting 10-over-par 586 (290-296), while Western Carolina's J.T. Poston won the individual title with a two-under score of 69-73=142 for the tournament.
Dayton will continue its spring season with a trip to Pinehurst, North Carolina, for the Pinehurst Intercollegiate at the Pinehurst Resort. The three-day tournament runs from March 13-15.
