DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team lost to Massachusetts Saturday in game two of the series, 11-3.
UMass jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first with five singles to the outfield and batted through the lineup. The Minutemen scored two more in the third to extend their advantage to 6-0.
Dayton answered in the bottom of the third with an RBI single by senior
Sergio Plasencia. Sophomore
Robbie Doring then scored the Flyers' second run on a fielder's choice by senior
A.J. Ryan.
The Minutemen scored twice again in the fourth, taking an 8-2 lead over UD.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Flyers got a run back with a sacrifice fly by junior
Aaron Huesman. That closed the gap to five runs.
UMass scored a single run in the seventh, eighth, and ninth to make it an 11-3 contest.
Dayton was unable to overcome the deficit in the bottom of the ninth and fell for the second straight game.
The Flyers totaled seven hits and left eight runners stranded while UMass collected 17 hits and left 11 on base.

Noah Buettgen (L, 0-3) went three innings, giving up six runs on eight hits while striking out five. Freshman
Mason Kutruff came on in the fourth for UD and fellow newcomer
Ben Polansky pitched the fifth and sixth frames. Redshirt freshman
Eric Ashbrook pitched the final 2 2/3 innings to close it out for the Flyers.
The Flyers (6-14, 0-2 A-10) will finish up their series with the Minutemen on Sunday at 12 p.m.
