FLYERS SET TO PLAY FIVE IN USF UNDER ARMOUR SHOWCASE

Game Notes

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton softball team is headed to the Sunshine State to play in the USF Under Armour Showcase this weekend.  They will be traveling to Clearwater, Florida to play Friday through Sunday.  
Dayton will face Western Michigan at 11:15 AM and Wagner at 1:45 PM on Friday.  The Flyers then face Penn at 9:00 AM and Robert Morris at 11:15 AM on Saturday.  They finish up play on Sunday when they take on North Florida at 11:15 AM.

Scouting Report
  • Wagner (2-2) - 2014 hitting leader, Kelsey Parker, leads the Seahawks with a .538 batting average this season.
  • Western Michigan (1-5) - 2014 hitting leader, Melissa Palmer, has a .521 batting average this season for the Broncos.
  • Penn (0-0) - Sophomore Leah Allen led the Quakers last season with a .383 batting average.  Penn has not played a game yet in the 2015 season.  Pitching leader Alexis Borden returns for her senior campaign.  She finished the 2014 season with a 2.26 era in 24 appearances, 12-10 record, and 131 strikeouts.
  • Robert Morris (7-6) - Sophomore Jordan Gurganus leads the team in 2015 with a .465 batting average and 20 hits.   Nicole Sleith leads the Colonials on the mound with a 1.67 era, four wins and 88 strikeouts.
  • North Florida (13-6) - Junior Stacy McClelland leads the Ospreys in 2015 with a .415 batting average, six home runs and tied with teammate Katie Mandigo with 20 RBI.  Pitcher Kaylie Wallace has a 1.59 era with four wins, one save, and 28 strikeouts.  Pitcher Kayla Goff has a 1.63 era, seven wins and leads the team with 43 strikeouts.

Friday - High of 75, low of 56, cloudy skies early, followed by partial clearing, slight chance of a rain shower.
Saturday - High of 73, low 60, partly cloudy with a 10% chance of rain.
Sunday - High of 77, low of 61, mostly sunny with a 10% chance of rain.

Rookies Shining Bright
Freshman Jaclyn Kweder was crowned the first A-10 Rookie of the Week for 2015.  Kweder had a solid collegiate start when she went 6-for-12 over four games in the Flyers' season-opening weekend.  She had one double and two RBIs. She batted .500 for the week, collecting six hits with a .583 slugging percentage and .500 on base percentage.  Two weeks later freshman Manda Cash was credited the same accolade.  Cash made four appearances in the second weekend of play, where she pitched 11.2 innings, fanned 15, walked four, and allowed three earned runs.  She pitched her first complete game as a Flyer, leading Dayton to a 3-1 victory over Georgia Southern.  Cash struck out six, walked two, and allowed eight hits and one earned run against the Eagles.

Flyers Picked To Finish Fifth in Atlantic 10
According to the preseason poll conducted by the league's 10 head coaches, the Flyers were chosen to finish fifth in 2015.  The Flyers finished fifth in the conference in 2014.  Fordham was the unanimous selection to finish first.  The Rams were winners of three of the last four A-10 Championships.

Preseason All-Conference Recognition
Two Flyers were named to the College Sports Madness 2015 Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Team.  Senior Tiffany Ricks was also chosen as the preseason Field Player of the Year.
