DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team transitions back to non-conference play this week with a single game against Wright State Tuesday at UD Softball Stadium, followed by a road doubleheader versus Akron on Wednesday at the Lee R. Jackson Field. Â Tuesday's game is scheduled for 4 p.m. Â Wednesday's first game has a first pitch time of 3 p.m.
Recent ActionThe Flyers have a 31-12 record and are coming off a three-game series sweep of George Washington last weekend at home. The Flyers won both games of the Saturday doubleheader (4-1, 4-0) and prevailed with a score of 7-0 in the Sunday finale.
Wright State enters the game with a 15-26 record overall. The Raiders most recently took two of three from conference foe Detroit. Â Akron is 20-20 on the season and have won six of their last eight.
Series Stuff Dayton has a 31-49-2 all-time record against the Raiders, and they played this season on April 1 where Dayton won 3-1.  UD has a 5-10 record against the Zips.  They last played in 2013.
Scouting Report As a team, the Raiders are hitting for a .274 average while allowing their opponents to a .316 mark. They are led by Jess Gorman  who is batting .333 with team highs in runs, hits, homeruns and tied for RBI.  Akron as a team hits for a .261 average while holding opponents to a .233 mark.  They are led on the mound by Erin Seiler who has a 2.61 ERA and is top-5 in the country in strikeouts with 259.

Just Win BabyWith the 8-0 victory over Rhode Island on March 28 head coach
Cara LaPlaca reached the 20-win milestone for her sixth time at UD, and her fifth season in a row. Â LaPlaca then broke her record for most wins in a season at UD which was 27, following the 6-1 win over Saint Joseph's on April 12. Â Next up she broke the school record for conference wins on April 18 with the 4-1 victory over George Washington. Â She is now looking to break the overall record for most wins in a season at 35 (2000).
300 ClubWith the 8-0 victory over the Fordham Rams on April 4, LaPlaca earned her 300th career victory. Â It was her 169th at Dayton. Â She earned 131 victories while head coach at her alma mater Clarke College.
Perfect EnglishSenior pitcher
Kayla English threw the first perfect game in UD history on March 29 against Rhode Island. Â She retired all 15 batters in a row in the 10-0 5-inning victory. Â It was her second no-hitter in her career, she threw one against Wright State on March 27, 2014. Â For her performance, she was awarded A-10 Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season.

- Kayla English holds the all-time career record in strikeouts with 539, ranks third in wins with 52, four away from the record, and third in innings pitched with 564.2.
- Tiffany Ricks ranks first in slugging percentage (.636), second in home runs (31) and RBI (115), third in batting average (.348), runs (95), and doubles (32), and fifth in steals (32).
- Natalie Mariano is third in hits (173) and fifth in runs scored (88).
- Grad Student Jordan Jennings is tied for third all-time in home runs (22) and is ninth all-time in RBI (82).
Prior to the game there will be a presentation for Head Coach Cara LaPlaca's 300th career win, as well as a presentation for senior Kayla English's perfect game she threw earlier this season. In addition, JaVonna Layfield and Andrijana Cvitkovic of the UD women's basketball team that advanced to the Elite Eight® will throw out the first pitch. The Anthem Buddies for this game will be the Firebirds 7th & 8th grade teams.
