DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's golf team finished in a tie for fifth place at the Wright State Collegiate with rounds of 296-308-290=894 (+42), just five strokes behind the fourth-place team. Junior
Thomas Goss fired rounds of 74-73-72=219 for a six-over-par total and finished tied for sixth place to pace the Flyers. The two-day event was held at at Miami Valley Golf Club and the course was played at par 71 and 6,705 yards
Valparaiso (293-296-291=880) took the team title after a one-hole playoff victory over Northern Kentucky. Wright State's Nicholas Scott took home medalist honors after finishing in first place with his scores of 73-67-73=213 (E). Dayton's third-round score of 290 tied for the lowest team round of the day Monday.
Freshman
Brendan Keating had one of his best tournaments of the season with his three-round score of 221 (71-77-73) to finish in 11th place at eight over par. Sophomore
Nick Paxson tied for 13th place after carding rounds of 74-78-71=223 (+10) and senior
George Rohde, III, turned in his low round of the tournament Monday at 74 to finish in a tie for 38th (77-80-74=231, +18). Freshman
Phillip Johnson was the fifth man on the team with rounds of 77-81-76=234 (+21) for 47th place.
Three Flyers were playing as individuals including junior
Matt Fazio who tied for 23rd place with his score of 75-76-75=226 (+13) and sophomore
Kevin Wargo carded rounds of 74-82-77 for a three-round total of 20-over-par 233 and tied for 44th. Senior
Craig Purpus rounded out the scoring for Dayton with 81-81-79=241 (+28) to tie for 57th place.
Dayton returns to action on April 11-12 for the Indiana Hoosier Invitational which will be held at the IU Golf Course in Bloomington, Indiana.
