RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Dayton Baseball team dropped the series finale Sunday 7-4.
The Spiders were the first to strike in the third with a single run. They went on to score two more runs in the sixth on back-to-back home runs, putting Dayton in a 3-0 hole
Sophomore
Cale Dineen opened the scoring in the seventh for the Flyers with an RBI single to left.
Richmond responded in the bottom half of the seventh with four runs, extending its advantage to 7-1.
Dayton managed a trio of runs with two outs in the top of the ninth with a two-run double by junior Cam Silva and an RBI by senior
Alex Harris.
The Spiders' lead was enough to take the game and the series from the Flyers though, 7-4.
Dayton kept pace with Richmond with six hits, but left eight runners stranded. Senior
Zach Schira led the way with a 2-for-4 outing while Dineen, Harris, and Silva provided the RBIs.
Sophomore
Nick Gobert (L, 1-2) got the start and allowed six runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings of work.
The Flyers (14-36, 3-17 A-10) will travel to Bowling Green on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. contest.
