FLYERS GROUNDED BY FALCONS, 9-1

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The University of Dayton Baseball team went up the road to Bowling Green on Tuesday and left with a 9-1 loss to the Falcons.

The Flyers opened the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI single to center by senior Zach Schira.

The Falcons answered in the third with a single run of their own. Another run by the host team in the fifth and the sixth innings put Dayton in a 3-1 deficit.

In the bottom of the seventh, Bowling Green exploded for six more runs, pushing its advantage to eight runs.

Dayton was unable to mount a comeback late in the game and fell to the Falcons by a final score of 9-1. The Flyers did manage seven hits in the contest, including a 3-for-4 outing by Schira and a 2-for-4 game by sophomore Matt Poland.

Starter Ben Polansky (L, 1-2) was stuck with the loss after giving up five earned runs on eight hits in six innings of work. Freshman Tyson Schnitkey threw 1 1/3 shutout innings out of the bullpen as well.
