DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team hosted Fordham University in the series opener Thursday at Woerner Field.
The Flyers were the first to strike in the bottom of the opening frame when sophomore
Mitch Coughlin doubled to lead off, then scored on sophomore
Matt Poland's RBI single to center.
It wasn't until the seventh inning that Fordham would answer as a trio of hits tied the game up at 1-1. The Rams then took their first lead of the contest with a two-run single to left, putting the visitors on top 3-1.
That would be all the scoring Fordham would need to take game one from the Flyers.
In the contest, Dayton totaled four hits and drew two walks.
Starter
Charlie Dant (L, 1-11) pitched six innings, allowing three runs on six hits before giving way to the bullpen. Freshman
Tyson Schnitkey was strong in relief, throwing three perfect innings with four strikeouts.
The Flyers (14-38, 3-19 A-10) will meet the Rams again Friday at 1 p.m. ET.
