INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Dayton baseball team was looking to complete the mid-week sweep of its games on Wednesday, but dropped an 8-1 decision at Butler.
The Flyers were quick to start their offensive attack as sophomore
Matt Poland hit an RBI single to left with just one out in the top of the first.
The host Bulldogs came alive in the second though and scored four runs, including a two-run home run to take a 4-1 lead. Another run in the third extended Butler's advantage to four.
Dayton gave three runs in the fifth frame to push the margin to seven runs at 8-1.
With such a large lead, the Bulldogs' advantage proved to be too much for the Flyers to overcome as Dayton suffered the 8-1 defeat.
UD totaled four hits in the contest compared to Butler's 14 hits. Both teams committed three errors in the field as well.
Starter
Bradley Horn (L, 2-5) gave up five runs, four earned, on six hits in his three innings of work. Junior
Ben Polansky, freshman
Tyson Schnitkey, and freshman
Danny Hentz saw time on the mound as well in relief.
The Flyers (14-33) will remain on the road this weekend as they head to Richmond for a three-game Atlantic 10 series.
