AMES, Iowa - After taking the first set, the University of Dayton volleyball team fell in four sets to 21st-ranked Iowa State, 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 18-25, 21-25) . Senior 
Alaina Turner posted her second double-double of the day with a match-high 14 kills to go with 11 digs. Dayton moves to 0-2 on the young season while Iowa State begins 2015 1-0.
STATS OF THE MATCH• Turner led all attackers with 14 kills and also served up two aces. Senior 
Jill Loiars also posted double-digit kills with 11 to go with a match-high five blocks and five digs.
• Redshirt-sophomore 
Megan Giardina tallied a match-high 22 assists while freshman 
Katie Machi set 16 assists. Sophomore 
Amber Erhahon recorded four blocks to go with seven kills and a .462 hitting percentage.
• Iowa State out-hit Dayton, .212 to .140, and while the rest of the stats were nearly even.
• Dayton scored the first eight points of the first set and held an eight-point lead six times. Iowa State pulled to within three, 23-20, before Dayton won the first frame, 25-20.
• The second set saw nine ties before Iowa State took the lead at 11-10 and would not relinquish it. Dayton was within two late but ISU took the set, 25-22.
• After Dayton scored the first two points of the third set, Iowa State pulled ahead, 4-2. An Agu-Loiars block set the score at 15-13 in favor of the Cyclones and ISU would stretch its lead to as many as seven. The Cyclones won set three, 25-18.
• Set four remained close with 12 ties before one of the teams reached 15 and Dayton tied the frame for the 14th time at 19-19. Iowa State scored six of the last eight points of the game to take the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-1.
• Iowa State was led by Jess Schaben with 11 kills and Caitlin Nolan with a match-high 18 digs.
UP NEXT• The Flyers will close out their three-match weekend at the Cyclone Invitational Saturday with a 12 p.m. ET match-up against the Marquette Golden Eagles.
• Dayton will travel to Carbondale, Illinois, to take part in the Comfort Inn Saluki Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois Sept. 4-5. The two-day tournament kicks off on Friday the 4th against the host Salukis at 8 p.m. Saturday's matches will feature UT Martin and Western Kentucky. All contests will be played in SIU Arena.
