BAYLOR BESTS VOLLEYBALL, 3-2, IN FLYERS' HOME OPENER

Turner Leads Field with 24 Kills, Serves Up Three Aces

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton volleyball team dropped its home opener to the visiting Baylor Bears, 3-2 (25-15, 22-25, 19-25, 25-23, 12-15), Friday night in front of a raucous Frericks Center crowd. The Flyers fall to 2-5 on the season and the Bears move to 6-1.

STATS OF THE MATCH
• Senior Alaina Turner led all attackers with 24 kills on 69 attempts and tallied six blocks to go with three service aces.
• Sophomore Jane Emmenecker posted the 48-assists, 12-dig double-double and senior Janna Krafka passed a team-high 14 digs – one of four Flyers with double-digit digs.
• Baylor was led by Katie Staiger with 18 kills while Andie Malloy recorded a 14-kill, 19-dig double-double for the Bears.
• Dayton out-hit Baylor, .297 to .268, and tallied 67 kills to BU's 64. The Bears had 11 team blocks while the Flyers had nine.

SET-BY-SET
• Set One: Baylor jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead but Dayton battled back to even the set at six points apiece. The Flyers were ahead two, 11-9, before rattling off five-straight points to take control. UD cruised to a 25-15 first-set win.
• Set Two: The Bears came out strong again in the second game, 3-0, but the Flyers tied the score at three-all on back-to-back kills and a BU attack error. Baylor pushed ahead four, 14-10, but the set was tied again at 15-15 after another Turner service ace. BU was up three late, 23-20, and held on for the 25-22 win in set two to even the match at 1-1.
• Set Three: In the third set, Baylor held the lead from start to finish, despite Dayton battling to keep the game close. The Bears' largest lead was six late and BU was able to take the third game, 25-19.
• Set Four: Dayton was up 4-2 after an Erhahon-Turner block but Baylor pulled even at six-all. The tables turned with BU up two, 9-7, but UD used a 7-0 run to shoot ahead, 14-9. The set was square at 15 and the two squads traded points. Close to the end, Dayton held on for the 25-23 victory in the fourth frame to force a fifth.
• Set Five: A service ace from Turner put the Flyers up two, 4-2, early in set five. Agu and Turner combined for the block to give UD the 8-7 advantage at the halfway point but a 4-1 BU spurt put Baylor up, 11-9. The Bears were able to come away with the 15-12 win to take the match, 3-2.

UP NEXT
• The Dayton Invitational continues tomorrow with four matches. The Flyers will take on Eastern Illinois at 12:30 p.m. and will close out the tournament against Cleveland State at 7 p.m. All matches will be played at Frericks Center and admission is free.
