ST. LOUIS - The University of Dayton volleyball team picked up its third Atlantic 10 Conference win Saturday afternoon by defeating Saint Louis, 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-22) at SLU's Chaifetz Pavilion. The Flyers are currently enjoying a five-match winning streak.
Dayton improves to 16-1 overall and 3-0 in league action while Saint Louis moves to 7-11 on the season and 2-1 in A-10 play.
STATS OF THE MATCH
• Junior Jessica Sloan led the Flyer attack with a team-high 15 kills to go with four digs and two service aces. Also in double-digit kills for the Flyers was junior Amber Erhahon with 12.
• Sophomore Kendyll Brown tallied a team-best five blocks and recorded five kills to zero errors in eight attempts for a .625 hitting percentage.
• Junior Jane Emmenecker set a match-high 37 assists and sophomore Margo Wolf was the team's leading passer with 18 digs.
• Saint Louis was led by Danielle Rygelski with a match-high 17 kills. For the match, Dayton out-hit Saint Louis, .354 to .228.
SET-BY-SET
• Set One: Dayton started the match up 3-1 on Saint Louis but the Billikens evened the set at seven points apiece on a kill by Lauren Mershon. The Flyers rallied with a 4-0 spurt to take the lead and UD was up eight at 17-9. Dayton pushed its lead to 10, 23-13, but Saint Louis used a 5-1 run to stay alive. The Billikens served up an error on the final play of the set as the Flyers took the set, 25-18.
• Set Two: The second set started close and we had our fourth tie at 6-6. Dayton briefly held the lead at 7-6 but Saint Louis rattled off four in a row to go up 10-7. The Flyers were able to tie the set again at 12-12 and UD pushed ahead four at 17-13. Dayton led by seven, 23-16, and reach set-point at 24-19. SLU held for one point but UD picked up a 25-20 second-set win.
• Set Three: The Flyers jumped out on the Billikens, 7-3, in the final set and they were up five at 13-8. The lead was five again at 18-13 after a kill from Brown and UD never relinquished the advantage. In the end, Dayton won the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-0.
UP NEXT
Dayton continues on the road next weekend with a trip to Rhode Island and New York. First stop will be Kingston as UD takes on the Rhode Island Rams Friday at 7 p.m. On Saturday the Flyers will hit up the Big Apple with a 5 p.m. match at Fordham in the Bronx.
