PEORIA, Ill. – The University of Dayton women's cross country team took seventh place out of 31 teams at the 2016 Bradley "Pink" Classic Friday afternoon.  Seven of the 10 Flyers competing turned in PRs.

"The team did a great job today. The results were good, but what I am most excited about is how they are responding to one another in races and how they are behaving as a group," said Sarah Haveman, UD's director of women's track & field and cross country. "There are great things ahead for this team."
 
Colorado, ranked No. 2 in the USTFCCCA national poll and No. 1 in the Mountain Region, took first place in the race. Northern Illinois, ranked No. 12 in the Midwest Region, was second; and Northern Iowa, ranked No. 15 in the same region, took third place. Bradley, No. 13 in the Midwest Region was fourth; South Dakota, ranked No. 9 in the same region was fifth; and Indiana, ranked No. 4 in the Great Lakes Region was sixth, just beating out UD, currently ranked No. 13 in the Great Lakes Region.
 
UD beat out regionally-ranked Illinois, Toledo, Iowa, and Missouri.
 
Taylor Vernot was Dayton's top finisher in a season-best and PR 6K time of 21:00.7, crossing the line in sixth place out of 267 runners.
 
Grace McDonald was the next Flyer to cross the line in a season-best time of 21:42.6.
 
Chloe Flora, Kassidy Manning, Olivia Hummel, Emily Borchers, Kaci Bornhorst , Allison Triskett and Alex Curtin also had PR performances. Bornhorst took 1:27 off her previous best.
 
UD improved upon its 15^th-place finish in this race in 2015.
 
 
The Flyers now enter their championship season, starting with the Atlantic 10 Championship at Pole Green Park in Richmond, Va. on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 10:50 a.m.
