DAVIDSON, N.C. - The University of Dayton volleyball team won its ninth-consecutive match Sunday with a sweep (25-18, 25-17, 25-23) of Davidson.
Dayton improves its nation's-best overall record to 20-1, marking the program's 29th 20-win season, while remaining the only unbeaten team in Atlantic 10 Conference play at 7-0. Davidson moves to 8-13 on the season and 3-4 in league action.
STATS OF THE MATCH
• Sophomore Kendyll Brown led the Flyers with a match-high 10 kills to go with four blocks. Junior Amber Erhahon also had four blocks along with four kills.
• Sophomore Margo Wolf passed a match-high 13 digs and junior Jane Emmenecker set a match-high 31 assists.
• Freshman Jamie Peterson chipped in eight kills while freshman Jordan Albarran got under eight digs for the Flyers.
• Davidson was led by Sarah Fink with six kills and Mikayla Derochie with 20 assists.
SET-BY-SET
• Set One: Davidson scored the first point of the match but Dayton rattled off the next four to jump out 4-1. The Wildcats were up one, 8-7, when the Flyers used a 6-0 run to pull in front 13-8. Dayton was ahead by six, 15-9, after a bad Davidson set and six again, 18-12, on a Brown-Peterson block. Leading 22-18, the Flyers scored the last three points of the set to claim a 25-18 win.
• Set Two: The Flyers had a 5-1 lead in the early going of the second set following a kill from Emmenecker and UD stretched it to eight, 11-3, on an Emmenecker-Erhahon block. Back-to-back kills from freshman Brianna Pittman pushed the advantage to 11, 21-10, but Davidson battled back with a 6-1 run. In the end, the Flyers came out on top, 25-17.
• Set Three: The deciding set was close start to finish as the Wildcats clawed to stay in the match. Brown opened the set with a service ace but DC, trailing by three, used a 5-0 spurt to take a 5-3 lead. The seventh tie of the frame came at 10-10 but a Davidson service ace set the score in favor of the Wildcats at 12-10. The two squads continued to trade points through the remainder of the set and were knotted at 23 after a Wildcat kill. Freshman Sierra Pla scored the last two points of the match with a kill and a solo block as the Flyers won, 25-23.
