DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton volleyball team picked up its fourth sweep in Atlantic 10 Conference play with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-13) win over La Salle Friday night at Frericks Center.
Dayton improves to 21-1 on the season and remains unbeaten in conference action at 8-0. La Salle falls to 10-14 overall and 1-7 in A-10 action.
STATS OF THE MATCH
• Junior Jessica Sloan led all attackers with a match-high 13 kills while junior Amber Erhahon tallied 11 kills while hitting at .562. Erhahon was also the team's leading blocker with three stuffs.
• Junior Jane Emmenecker set a match-high 38 assists while sophomore Margo Wolf got under a team-high 13 digs for UD.
• La Salle was led by Bryanna Davis with 10 kills and Jensen Sharrits with a match-high 15 digs.
SET-BY-SET
• Set One: Set one started slow with neither team breaking away until back-to-back Flyer kills gave UD a slim 9-7 lead. La Salle got one back but Dayton charged ahead with a 9-1 run to go up 18-9. It was smooth sailing the rest of the way with the Flyers coming out on top, 25-13.
• Set Two: La Salle came out swinging in the second set, jumping out to a 4-1 lead in the early going. Dayton tied the match at seven points apiece and it was a seesaw through a 17-17 tie when a kill from Erhahon kick started a 4-0 Flyer run. An Explorer attack error set the score at 22-18 in favor of the Flyers and UD finished off the set with a 25-21 win.
• Set Three: The Explorers scored the first point of set three but the Flyers then rattled off seven straight and led by seven at 9-2 following a kill from Sloan. A Dayton triple block gave Dayton the 15-8 lead and a back set turned attack from Emmenecker scored the Flyers' 20th point of the frame. A strong swing from freshman Jamie Peterson set up match point at 24-13 and she followed that with another kill as UD took the set and the match, 3-0.
UP NEXT
The Flyers will remain at home for a Sunday matinee Oct. 23. Dayton will play host to Duquesne at Frericks Center with first serve set for 1 p.m.
