INDIANAPOLIS -- The University of Dayton football team improved to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the Pioneer Football League today with a 31-16 win at Butler.

The win was Dayton's fourth straight, and clinched the Flyers' 39th winning season in the last 40 years.

SCORING

• Dayton needed to drive just 50 yards for the first score after a 40-yard return of the opening by Cameron Stubbs.  Alex Jeske hit Jack Euritt for a 24-yard score.  Dayton 7, Butler 0
• A Stubbs interception in Butler territory set up another short field.  A Jeske to Ryan Skibinski 23-yard pass (Skibinski's first career TD) made the score Dayton 14, Butler 0 after one quarter.
• A Butler interception gave the Bulldogs the ball deep in Flyer territory, but the Dayton D held BU to a three-and-out before a Drew Bevelhimer 36-yard field goal got Butler on the board.  Dayton 14, Butler 3
• UD drove 70 yards in nine plays, with Ian Palin scoring his first TD on his second catch, a 15-yard reception. Dayton 21, Butler 3
• The Flyers used nine plays again, but this time went 75 yards.  The final yard was a freshman Sean Prophit's first career touchdown.  Dayton 28, Butler 3 at halftime.
• UD ate up 5:31 on the clock, running 14 plays and gaining 69 yards, before William Will's 38-yard field goal made the score Dayton 31, Butler 3
• A 53-yard Bulldog run led to a nine-yard Malcolm Weaver to Danny Cotter TD pass. Dayton 31, Butler 10 after three quarters.
• Butler scored the only points of the fourth quarter with a seven-yard run by Anthony Scaccia.  Jack Crain blocked the extra point to make the final score Dayton 31, Butler 16.

STATS

• Quarterback Alex Jeske led the Flyers by completing 21 of 35 passes for 272 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception.  His three TDs were to three different receivers.  Jeske also ran six times for a team-high 54 yards.
• Jeske's favorite target was Jack Euritt, who caught a career-high eight passes for a career-high 136 yards.
• Ryan Skibinski added five catches for 38 yards and his first career TD.
• Jack Crain led UD with 14 tackles, with 1.5 TFL.
• David Leisring had 10 tackles, including 2.0 TFL.
• Christopher Beaschler had nine hits (six solo), 2.0 TFL, a sack and a quarterback hurry.
• Chris Hagan led UD with seven solo tackles (eight total), and 2.0 TFL.

NOTES

• Jack Crain's blocked kick was his second in as many weeks.  Dayton now has five blocks on the year, and 17 over the last three years.
• Dayton has 29 wins against Butler, the most over any opponent in football.
• Saturday was offensive tackle Jimmy Vogel's 40th career start.
• Jack Euritt has caught at least one pass in 20 consecutive games.
• Dayton has scored in 451 straight games, the longest non-shutout streak in NCAA football.
• There was a 50-minute delay midway through the second quarter Butler senior captain Jordan Ransone was taken to a local hospital with a leg injury. After waiting 30 minutes, the officiating crew sent the teams to the locker room for the usual 20-minute "halftime" with 7:03 remaining in the second quarter and Dayton leading, 21-3. The teams finished the second quarter and then had only a three-minute break between the second and third quarters.
