MADISON, Wis. – The University of Dayton women's cross country team finished 18^th out of 32 teams in the 2016 NCAA Division I Great Lakes Regional meet in Madison, Wis.

"Today wasn't exactly what we were going for in terms of overall results but, I'm proud of the women for hanging tough," said Director of Women's Track & Field and Cross Country Sarah Haveman. "We are incredibly proud of their progress. This was a pivotal season for our program. Our freshmen had tremendous seasons under great leadership from our sophomores and juniors."
 
The Flyers were led by sophomore Taylor Vernot, who finished 44^th overall with a time of 21:12.2. Vernot was joined in the top 100 by freshman Chloe Flora, who finished 95^th in a time of 22:03.9
 
Kassidy Manning finished third for the Flyers and 105^th overall with a time of 22:15.9.
 
Grace McDonald (114th), Olivia Hummel (116th), Kaci Bornhorst (173th), and Emily Borchers (175th) rounded out the top seven for the Flyers.
 
Michigan, ranked No. 5 in the nation, won the Regional Championship with a score of 61, followed by nationally-ranked No. 14 Notre Dame (91) and No. 22 Michigan State (97).

The Flyers finished ahead of Western Michigan, IUPUI, Cincinnati, Ohio, Ball State, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Wright State in the Top 25.
 
This race concluded a very successful season for Dayton which included three second-place finishes (Atlantic 10 Championship, All-Ohio Championship and Flyer 5K) and a third-place finish at the Notre Dame National Catholic Invitational.
