FLYERS OPEN JUNKANOO JAM WITH GEORGIA TECH

BIMINI, Bahamas - The University of Dayton women's basketball team is set to compete in the Junkanoo Jam this weekend in the Bahamas, starting with Georgia Tech Friday at 3 p.m.

ABOUT THE FLYERS
Dayton heads to the Bahamas for the holidays with a 2-2 record overall and amidst a five-game road stretch. The Flyers hold wins over Wisconsin and Princeton while suffering losses at home to Quinnipiac and No. 2 UConn.

Through three games, Dayton is out-scoring opponents in the second half and overtime while getting off to slower starts. The Flyers are scoring 67.5 points per game and giving up 70.2 to opposing teams. Head coach Shauna Green has Dayton shooting well from behind the arc with a 33.3% three-point percentage in 105 attempts already this season.

Dayton's offense is run by junior Jenna Burdette, who is recording 13.5 points and 3.8 assists per game, and sophomore Lauren Cannatelli, who is adding 12.0 points per game and has led the Flyers in scoring in three games so far this season. Freshman and A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week Jayla Scaife scored in double digits in two of her three games this year while redshirt junior Alex Harris is adding 7.5 points and 9.0 rebounds each contest.

SCOUTING GEORGIA TECH
Georgia Tech is 4-0 on the season with wins over Samford, Alabama State, at Kennesaw State, and in-state foe Georgia. Head coach MaChelle Joseph has a young squad with just one senior and one grad student while putting together an international roster with players from Senegal, Serbia, Nigeria, Romania, Portugal, and Italy.

The Yellow Jackets are scoring 67.5 points per game while holding opponents to just 49.8 points, good enough for a +17.8 scoring margin. That partnered with a 43% field goal percentage and a +9.8 turnover margin has GT undefeated this season.

Junior forward Zaire O'Neil has led the Jackets in scoring in three of the four contests with a 13.5 ppg average to go with a team-high 5.0 rebounds each game. Italian freshman Francesca Pan has added 9.3 points on 36.8% three-point shooting as well.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton went to Storrs, Conn. on Tuesday and faced off against the second-ranked and defending national champions Connecticut. The Flyers led early, but the Huskies responded and won the contest 98-65. Burdette and Cannatelli led UD with 15 points each.

Georgia Tech defeated in-state foe Georgia in Atlanta 52-45 after out-scoring the Bulldogs 15-6 in the fourth quarter. O'Neil led the way for the Yellow Jackets with 20 points and six rebounds.

The Flyers and Yellow Jackets will be meeting for the first time in program history in the Junkanoo Jam.

Shauna Green was hired as the new Dayton women's basketball head coach on Sept. 11, 2016. She takes over for former head coach Jim Jabir, who was at the helm of the Flyers for 13 seasons. Green served as an assistant on Coach Jabir's staff at Dayton from 2012-15. In 2015-16, Green was an assistant on Joe McKeown's staff at Northwestern. She is in her third season as a collegiate head coach after having previously led Loras College.

TAMING THE TIGERS
Dayton defeated Princeton at Jadwin Gymnasium in Princeton, N.J. on Nov. 19, handing the Tigers just their third loss at home over the past three seasons.

FACING THE BEST
The Flyers played defending national champions and second-ranked Connecticut on Nov. 22 in Storrs, Conn. and suffered a loss to the Huskies, who won their 79th straight game. UD will play six teams this season that competed in the NCAA Tournament last year, all on the road or at neutral sites.
