KINGSTON, R.I. – The University of Dayton women's soccer team opened up the Atlantic 10 Championships with a bang on Thursday morning, upsetting No. 2 seed Saint Louis 3-0 at the URI Soccer Complex.
STAT OF THE MATCH
• Junior
Alexis Kiehl led the Flyers with a goal, an assist and three shots, including two on goal.Â
• Senior
Libby Leedom scored her sixth goal of the season, giving her the second-most goals and points (15) on the team.
• Sophomore
Beth Kamphaus' goal was her first of the 2016 season and third in her career.
• Sophomore goalkeeper
Kaelyn Johns had four saves to earn the shutout.
• SLU entered the A-10 Championship tied for the Atlantic 10 lead in shutouts (9), and had only given up three goals one other time on the season.
• The Flyers lead the all-time series 10-2-2 over the Billikens and are unbeaten in the last 11 meetings.
• Prior to this season, the last four Dayton wins over Saint Louis were decided by one goal. The two teams finished at a 1-1, double overtime draw in the 2016 conference opener at Baujan Field (Sept. 29).
