WINTER PARK, Fla. - The University of Dayton women's basketball team is set to open the Florida Sunshine Classic on Tuesday at 1 p.m. against Texas A&M at Warden Arena on the campus of Rollins College.
ABOUT THE FLYERS
Dayton heads into the Florida Sunshine Classic with a 3-6 record overall, a two-game losing streak, and an 0-2 neutral site mark. The Flyers have fallen to Toledo and La Salle in their last two outings with the last win coming on Dec. 2 against Morgan State. Head coach
Shauna Green is in her first season in charge.
As a team, Dayton is shooting 37.5% from the field, 31.3% from three-point range, and 65.1% from free throw line. The Flyers are scoring 63.9 points per game and giving up 65.6 points to opponents. UD has a -0.7 rebounding margin and a -2.1 turnover margin.
The Flyers are led by junior
Jenna Burdette, who is averaging 12.2 points and 3.9 assists each game, and redshirt senior
Kelley Austria, who is adding 10.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per contest. Redshirt junior
Alex Harris is contributing in all aspects of the game with 6.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, and 1.0 steals each outing.
SCOUTING TEXAS A&M
Texas A&M enters the Florida Sunshine Classic with an 8-2 record overall, with the losses coming USC and SMU. The Aggies are receiving votes in both the AP and Coaches Polls. Head coach Gary Blair is in his 16th year at the helm and guided TAMU to a national championship in 2011.
The Aggies are scoring 71.6 points per game and allowing just 56.9 points to opponents. TAMU is shooting 44.2 percent from the floor, 33.0% from three point range, and 71.9% from the free throw line. The Aggies also have a +12.5 rebounding margin and a +1.3 turnover margin.
Leading the way is sophomore Danni Williams, who is scoring 17.4 points each contest, while fellow sophomore Anriel Howard is adding 11.8 points and 12.7 rebounds per game. Junior center Khaalia Hillsman is the other Aggie scoring in double figures with 16.4 each outing.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton suffered its second straight loss with a 76-72 defeat at the hands of Toledo on Dec. 9. The Flyers out-rebounded and out-shot the Rockets, but a 25-point fourth quarter by the visitors gave Dayton it's sixth loss of the season.
Texas A&M is coming off an 81-58 win over Southern on Saturday on the road. The Aggies led the entire game and as much as 27 in the eighth victory of the season for TAMU. A&M had five scorers in double figures. Â
THE SERIES
The Flyers and Aggies will play each other for the first time in program history on Tuesday in Florida.
NEVER BEFORE SEEN
Dayton is playing a number of opponents this season the Flyers have not faced yet in program history. UD will take on for the first time this season Georgia Tech, Creighton, Morgan State, Texas A&M, Liberty, and Virginia.
PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish in a tie for second place in the Atlantic 10 Preseason poll, trailing only conference favorites Saint Louis. The Flyers tied with Duquesne and were picked ahead of George Washington, VCU, and Fordham.
COMING OFF 2015-16
Dayton (14-15, 7-9 A-10) finished the 2015-16 season with its ninth consecutive postseason appearance by making a trip to the WNIT. The Flyers fell to Western Kentucky, ending the year with the first losing season since 2006-07. Head coach

NEW LEADER
Shauna Green was hired as the new Dayton women's basketball head coach on Sept. 11, 2016. She takes over for former head coach Jim Jabir, who was at the helm of the Flyers for 13 seasons. Green served as an assistant on Coach Jabir's staff at Dayton from 2012-15. In 2015-16, Green was an assistant on Joe McKeown's staff at Northwestern. She is in her third season as a collegiate head coach after having previously led Loras College.

Dayton has won 61 of its last 77 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.803), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.

TAMING THE TIGERS
Dayton defeated Princeton at Jadwin Gymnasium in Princeton, N.J. on Nov. 19, handing the Tigers just their third loss at home over the past three seasons.
FACING THE BEST
The Flyers played defending national champions and second-ranked Connecticut on Nov. 22 in Storrs, Conn. and suffered a loss to the Huskies, who won their 79th straight game. UD will play six teams this season that competed in the NCAA Tournament last year, all on the road or at neutral sites. The Flyers have the 39th toughest strength of schedule in Division I this season.
70'S THE MAGIC NUMBER
Since the 2009-10 season, Dayton is 122-14 (.903) when scoring 70 or more points, including 10-2 in 2015-16. During the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, the Flyers only lost one game per season when scoring at least 70 points, and dropped only two games in 2009-10 when reaching that mark.

THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 484 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.
WE'VE GOT AN AUDIENCE
On Dec. 9 this season, the Flyers played in front of 9,007 fans at UD Arena while hosting Toledo. The season-best crowd was due to the overwhelming success of UD's annual School Day game, a chance for local school-aged children to take a field trip with the Flyers. With a home attendance average of 3,532, Dayton ranked 25th out of 349 DI programs.
ATLANTIC 10 FORMAT
Despite its name, the Atlantic 10 conference consists of 14 member schools competing under one division in women's basketball. Each team will play a 16-game conference slate this season, including three home-and-away series. Dayton will play two games against Duquesne, George Washington and Saint Louis and one against the remaining field during league action.
THE NEW AND IMPROVED 2017 ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2017 A-10 Championship will feature a new, enhanced format, with six first-round games being played on campus sites before heading to Richmond, Friday through Sunday, for the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship final games. The top two championship seeds will receive a bye, with the remainder of the field facing off in games hosted by seeds 3-8 for the first round. The first round will take place on the Saturday and Sunday prior to the weekend of the quarterfinals, semifinals and final. In 2017 the first round will be Feb. 25-26 with the three final rounds being played March 3-5.
ELIGIBLE THIS SEASON
The Flyers have a familiar face making her debut this season in redshirt junior
Alex Harris, a 6-3 forward is originally from Lorain, Ohio. She came to UD from Penn State, where she appeared in 47 career games for the Nittany Lions.
NATIONAL TEAM EXPERIENCE
Three Flyers have experience playing for their respective national teams.
• Sophomore
Maddy Dennis was a member of the 2015 U-19 Australian National Team that won a bronze medal at the 2015 U-19 FIBA World Championship. She was also a member of the 2013 and 2014 U-17 Australian National Team.
• Senior
Saicha Grant-Allen most recently was a member of Canada's Senior B Women's Basketball National Team that claimed the 36th Annual William Jones Cup in Taipei, Taiwan, during the summer of 2014.
• Senior
Andrijana Cvitkovic played for the Croatian U18 National Team during the summer of 2012.
