#UDWBB OPENS A-10 PLAY WITH LA SALLE SUNDAY

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton women's basketball team will host La Salle in the Atlantic 10 opener on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. at UD Arena.

Following the game, there will be postgame autographs on the floor. It will also be Toys for Tots Day at Dayton with donations being collected around the arena.

ABOUT THE FLYERS
Dayton opens Atlantic 10 play on Sunday by hosting La Salle at UD Arena, the second straight home game for the Flyers. UD enters conference play with a 3-4 record overall, including wins over Wisconsin, Princeton, and Morgan State. Head coach Shauna Green is in her first season at the helm, and has guided the Flyers to a 1-1 record at home.

After seven games, the Flyers are scoring 64.6 points per game and allowing 65.7 to opposing teams. UD is shooting 36.8% from the field, 30.3% from behind the arc, and 67.4% from the free throw line. The Flyers have to overcome a -1.3 rebounding margin and a -1.6 turnover margin.

Dayton is led by senior Kelley Austria's 11.0 points per game while freshman Jayla Scaife is chipping in 10.3 points and 5.0 rebounds each contest. Junior Jenna Burdette is the other double-digit scorer with 10.3 points per game. Redshirt junior Alex Harris is having a stellar debut season for the Flyers with 7.3 points and 8.1 rebounds each contest.

SCOUTING LA SALLE
La Salle opens A-10 play with a similar 3-4 record overall after picking up victories over American, Miami (OH), and UNC-Wilmington. The Explorers opened the season with a three-game losing streak before winning three in a row under the direction of seventh-year head coach Jeff Williams.

Through seven games, La Salle is scoring 62.1 points each contest and giving up 63.6 to opponents. Despite being outscored, the Explorers have a +0.7 turnover margin and are shooting 36.8% from the field. LU has struggled from three-point range with a 27.6% mark, but has shot 73.6% from the charity stripe.

The Explorers are led by junior Amy Griffin, who is averaging 19.7 points each game and leading the A-10 in scoring. Senior Jasmine Alston is adding 10.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per contest while sophomore Adreanna Miller is helping out with 9.0 points per game and nine three's on the season.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton returned home to pick up a 61-42 win over Morgan State after spending 19 days and five games on the road. The Flyers were led by Austria's 15 points while senior Saicha Grant-Allen and Burdette added nine points each.

La Salle suffered a heartbreaking 52-49 loss at Villanova on Wednesday. The Explorers led early on, but were outscored 16-11 in the fourth. Griffin led LU with 16 points and three assists.

THE SERIES
Sunday's game will be the 35th meeting ever between the Flyers and Explorers, with Dayton winning 19 of the previous contests. UD has an 11-game winning streak against La Salle, having not lost since 2006. In the last meeting on Jan. 27, 2016, Dayton won on the road, 67-51.

In Dayton's win over Wisconsin on Nov. 16, there were a number of career performances for the Flyers:

NEVER BEFORE SEEN
Dayton is playing a number of opponents this season the Flyers have not faced yet in program history. UD will take on for the first time this season Georgia Tech, Creighton, Morgan State, Texas A&M, Liberty, and Virginia.

SCAIFE NAMED A-10 CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Dayton freshman Jayla Scaife was named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week on Nov. 21 after averaging 13.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in her first two collegiate games. The Muncie, Ind. native capped off the week with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the overtime win at Princeton.

PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish in a tie for second place in the Atlantic 10 Preseason poll, trailing only conference favorites Saint Louis. The Flyers tied with Duquesne and were picked ahead of George Washington, VCU, and Fordham.

ALREADY ALL-CONFERENCE
Junior guard Jenna Burdette was named First Team All-Conference after averaging 11.5 points and 4.8 assists per game last season. Senior guard Kelley Austria earned Second Team All-Conference and All-Defensive team honors, following an injury-shortened season in which she scored 10.4 points per game and recorded 2.6 steals per game. Fellow senior center Saicha Grant-Allen rounded out the accolades, earning Third Team All-Conference honors. The Ontario native scored 11.1 points each contest and grabbed 8.9 boards per game.

COMING OFF 2015-16
Dayton (14-15, 7-9 A-10) finished the 2015-16 season with its ninth consecutive postseason appearance by making a trip to the WNIT. The Flyers fell to Western Kentucky, ending the year with the first losing season since 2006-07. Head coach Shauna Green is in her first season in charge of the program.

FLYERS IN REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE PLAY
Dayton has won 61 of its last 76 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.803), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.

TAMING THE TIGERS
Dayton defeated Princeton at Jadwin Gymnasium in Princeton, N.J. on Nov. 19, handing the Tigers just their third loss at home over the past three seasons.

FACING THE BEST
The Flyers played defending national champions and second-ranked Connecticut on Nov. 22 in Storrs, Conn. and suffered a loss to the Huskies, who won their 79th straight game. UD will play six teams this season that competed in the NCAA Tournament last year, all on the road or at neutral sites.

70'S THE MAGIC NUMBER
Since the 2009-10 season, Dayton is 122-13 (.903) when scoring 70 or more points, including 10-2 in 2015-16. During the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, the Flyers only lost one game per season when scoring at least 70 points, and dropped only two games in 2009-10 when reaching that mark.

THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 483 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.

SPEAKING OF THREES...
Cincinnati native sophomore Lauren Cannatelli made a team-best 62 three-point baskets last season which is a new program record among Flyer freshmen. Former Flyer Justine Raterman sank 47 three-pointers her first year on the team (2008-09). Cannatelli's 36.0 three-point field-goal percentage (62-172) is the fifth-best average by a UD freshman. Additionally, Cannatelli's 62 made three-point baskets ranked tied for fifth all-time for treys made in a season.

WE'VE GOT AN AUDIENCE
With a crowd of 10,159 at UD Arena for Dayton's last season opener against Yale on Nov. 13, the Flyers boasted the seventh-most attended game last season. The record crowd was due to the overwhelming success of UD's annual School Day game, a chance for local school-aged children to take a field trip with the Flyers. With a home attendance average of 2,890, Dayton ranked 39th out of 349 DI programs. This season's School Day game will be on Dec. 9 against Toledo at UD Arena.

ATLANTIC 10 FORMAT
Despite its name, the Atlantic 10 conference consists of 14 member schools competing under one division in women's basketball. Each team will play a 16-game conference slate this season, including three home-and-away series. Dayton will play two games against Duquesne, George Washington and Saint Louis and one against the remaining field during league action.

THE NEW AND IMPROVED 2017 ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2017 A-10 Championship will feature a new, enhanced format, with six first-round games being played on campus sites before heading to Richmond, Friday through Sunday, for the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship final games. The top two championship seeds will receive a bye, with the remainder of the field facing off in games hosted by seeds 3-8 for the first round. The first round will take place on the Saturday and Sunday prior to the weekend of the quarterfinals, semifinals and final. In 2017 the first round will be Feb. 25-26 with the three final rounds being played March 3-5.

ELIGIBLE THIS SEASON
The Flyers have a familiar face making her debut this season in redshirt junior Alex Harris, a 6-3 forward is originally from Lorain, Ohio. She came to UD from Penn State, where she appeared in 47 career games for the Nittany Lions.

NATIONAL TEAM EXPERIENCE
Three Flyers have experience playing for their respective national teams.
• Sophomore Maddy Dennis was a member of the 2015 U-19 Australian National Team that won a bronze medal at the 2015 U-19 FIBA World Championship. She was also a member of the 2013 and 2014 U-17 Australian National Team.
• Senior Saicha Grant-Allen most recently was a member of Canada's Senior B Women's Basketball National Team that claimed the 36th Annual William Jones Cup in Taipei, Taiwan, during the summer of 2014.
• Senior Andrijana Cvitkovic played for the Croatian U18 National Team during the summer of 2012.

POSTSEASON EXPECTATION
