DAYTON BASEBALL FALLS TO STONY BROOK IN OPENER

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The University of Dayton Baseball team fell in its season opener against No. 26 Stony Brook, 11-6.

KEY STATS
  • Starting pitcher Sam Brunner (L, 0-1) went 3 1/3 innings with five runs allowed on four hits and four strikeouts.
  • Ben Polansky, Kevin Piersol, Austin Cline, Brandon Smith, and Tyler Henry saw time on the mound out of the bullpen. Piersol, Smith, and Henry had shutout appearances.
  • Junior Matt Poland finished the game with two RBI and a 3-for-5 outing, including a double. Fellow juniors Mitch Coughlin, Nick Weybright, and Glenn Jones chipped in two hits each as well.
  • The Flyers matched the Seawolves with 12 hits in the game with both teams leaving nine runners stranded.
  • Dayton didn't commit a single error in the contest.
