NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— VCU men's golf has been selected to repeat as Atlantic 10 Champions in the 2016 Championship Poll, which was released Friday ahead of the start of A-10 Match play, which begins Monday, Feb. 22.

The Dayton Flyers were selected to finish fourth in the poll. Last year, Dayton finished in sixth place at the A-10 Championships. Junior Nick Paxson was Dayton's top performer a season ago, finishing tied for fifth place with rounds of 70-72-73=215 (-1).

VCU garnered all 11 first-place votes in the poll, which was conducted among the league's head golf coaches. VCU won the 2014 and 2015 A-10 titles and will be looking for a three-peat this spring. VCU, led by 2015 A-10 Medalist Adam Ball and senior Steffan Harm, collected 121 points in the poll. The Rams also are coached by two-time Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year Matt Ball.

Richmond, last year's runner-up, placed second in the poll with 102 points. The Spiders are led by last year's Rookie of the Year Matthew Lowe and senior David Germann, who had a top five finish in last year's A-10 Championship. Rhode Island was picked to finish third with 94 points, just ahead of Dayton with 90 points.

Davidson, which tallied 83 points was picked fifth, followed by George Mason at sixth (65 points), George Washington at seventh (47 points) and La Salle (39 points). Saint Joseph's, St. Bonaventure and Fordham rounded out the poll respectively.

Eight A-10 teams will play in the A-10 Match play on Feb. 22. Dayton will not be participating in the A-10 Match play, as the team will be traveling to Hilton Head, S.C., to play in the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by Francis Marion University.
