DADE CITY, Fla. – The University of Dayton men's golf team completed the first day of the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play tournament at the Lake Jovita Country Club. The Flyers went 1-1 on the day.
Dayton lost a tough, first match to Toledo, 3.5-2.5. Senior
Thomas Goss and sophomore
Phillip Johnson won their individual matches, 4 & 3 to give Dayton two points. Sophomore
Tripp French secured half of a point for the team, finishing his match all square with his opponent.
The Flyers were able to rebound in the second match by defeating Ball State, 3.5-2.5. Junior
Nick Paxson, sophomore
Brendan Keating and Goss all won their matches. Johnson was able to earn half of a point in his match to help Dayton get the victory.
Up Next:The team will play its final 18 holes of golf at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play tournament against Ohio on Tuesday. The match is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m.
