XENIA, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team led throughout the contest, but suffered a 7-6 loss to Eastern Michigan on Wednesday night in Xenia, Ohio.
The Flyers (3-11) finally got their game in against Eastern Michigan (5-11) after having the initial game rained out on Sunday.
SCORING BREAKDOWN- Top of 1st - The visiting Eagles opened the scoring with a single run in the top of the first on a Dayton error. Dayton 0, EMU 1
- Bottom of 2nd – Dayton answered in the second with a two-run triple by Nick Ryan and a sacrifice fly by Robbie Doring. Dayton 3, EMU 1
- Top of 3rd – EMU got a sacrifice fly of their own to cut the gap to one run. Dayton 3, EMU 2
- Top of 4th – The Eagles tied the game up with a solo home run to right. Dayton 3, EMU 3
- Bottom of 5th – Dayton's Matt Poland put the Flyers back on top with an RBI groundout before Mark Giesler hit an RBI double to right-center. Dayton 5, EMU 3
- Top of 6th – EMU's Mioduszewski hits his second home run of the game, this time a two-run shot to right tying the game at 5-5. Dayton 5, EMU 5
- Top of 8th – The Eagles took the lead in the top of the eighth with a solo home run. Dayton 5, EMU 6
- Bottom of 8th – Cameron Silva ripped an RBI triple to right-center, evening the score once again 6-6. Dayton 6, EMU 6
- Top of 9th – EMU pulled ahead 7-6 when the Eagles scored on a Flyer error. Dayton 6, EMU 7
KEY STATS- The Flyers got six runs six hits, but suffered from four defensive miscues to let the Eagles escape with a 7-6 victory.
- Doring, Poland, Giesler, Silva, and Ryan (2) recorded the RBI for Dayton. Six different Flyers recorded a hit in the game.
- The four errors by Dayton were a season high.
- Starter Austin Cline allowed three runs, two earned, with five hits and five strikeouts in five innings of work.
- Reliever Tyler Henry (L, 0-1) was saddled with the loss after giving up two runs on three hits in 1/3 of an inning. Danny Hentz and Kevin Piersol saw time on the mound for UD as well.
UP NEXT- The Flyers will travel to Muncie, Indiana this weekend for a four-game set against Ball State University.
