DAYTON LOSES BOTH IN DOUBLEHEADER AT BALL STATE

MUNCIE, Ind. – The University of Dayton baseball team dropped both games in the doubleheader at Ball State University on Friday.

The Flyers (3-13) were unable to overcome the host Cardinals (10-9) in either of the contests on the opening day of the series.

GAME 1 – Dayton 3, Ball State 9
SCORING BREAKDOWN
  • Top of 1stRobbie Doring opened the scoring with an RBI double to left, scoring Glenn Jones, who had doubled just previously. Dayton 1, Ball State 0
  • Top of 4thMark Giesler doubled the Flyers' lead with an RBI double to center. Dayton 2, Ball State 0
  • Bottom of 5th – Ball State scored six times in the bottom of the 5th frame with a pair of RBI doubles and a pair of RBI singles. Dayton 2, Ball State 6

KEY STATS
  • The Flyers were out-hit in the contest 14-8. Giesler led the way with a 3-for-4 outing and an RBI while Huesman scored twice. Doring and Echols provided the other UD runs.
  • For the seventh game this season, Dayton did not commit an error.
  • Starter Charlie Dant (L, 1-1) was saddled with the loss after giving up six runs on nine hits in five innings on the mound.
  • Reliever Ben Polansky came out of the bullpen and threw the next three innings giving up three runs on five hits.

  • The Flyers totaled seven hits in the contest, but left seven runners on base.
  • Echols went 2-for-4 to lead Dayton while Giesler drove in the lone Flyer run. Six different UD athletes recorded a hit in the game.
  • Starter Mason Kutruff (L, 0-3) pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits while fanning two.
  • Freshman Tyler Henry came in relief and threw 3 2/3 shutout innings of work, striking out three and walking none.
