#UDSB SHOWS OFF PITCHING AND DEFENSE IN SWEEP OF AKRON

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton softball team put together two strong performances on Sunday afternoon, sweeping the visiting Akron Zips by scores of 5-0 and 1-0 at UD Softball Stadium.

GAME ONE – Dayton 5 Akron 0
Scoring Breakdown
Bottom 1st – With two outs in the inning, the Flyers loaded the bases and junior Hannah DeSalvo came through with a two-run single up the middle to give UD a 2-0 lead.
Bottom 4th – Sophomore Kayla Haberstich started another two-out rally with a double, and after moving to third on a wild pitch, scored on a single by fellow sophomore Jaclyn Kweder to give Dayton a 3-0 advantage.
Bottom 5th – Dayton brought the game to its final of 5-0 thanks to a Kathryn Hess double, Akron error and wild pitch, as well as a DeSalvo RBI fielder's choice that scored senior Kirsten Bartlett.

Key Stats
Sophomore Manda Cash dominated in the circle for the Flyers, throwing the complete game and allowing just three hits while striking out nine. The win is her second on the season.

Sophomore Kailee Budicin pieced together a nice game as Dayton's three hitter, going 3-for-4 at the plate and scoring a run. It was Budicin's second three-hit game of the season.

Haberstich finished the game 2-for-3 with a double, giving the sophomore her first multi-hit game of the season.

DeSalvo's three runs driven in were a career-best for the junior.

GAME TWO – Dayton 1 Akron 0
Scoring Breakdown
Bottom 5th – Game Two's lone run came thanks to an Akron error that followed a Hannah DeSalvo double.

Key Stats
Dayton's pitching and defense were phenomenal, as Jessica Gilliam picked up her fourth win of the season, Gabby Snyder pitched an effective two-thirds of an inning, and Manda Cash converted on her third save opportunity of the year.

Defensively, the Flyers were flawless for the third straight game. Perhaps the defensive play of the day came in the top of the Fourth inning when Kathryn Hess turned a sacrifice bunt into a double play to squander the Zips' rally.

UD was outhit in the second game, with only DeSalvo and senior Katelyn Gibson finding their way aboard via base hit.

UP NEXT
The Flyers start a busy week on Tuesday, March 22 with a single game against cross-town foe Wright State at 4 p.m. Dayton will then travel to Wright State on Wednesday, March 23 for the final game of the season series with the Raiders.
