DAYTON POUNDS TOLEDO TUESDAY, 14-6

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team picked up its biggest win of the season on Tuesday with a 14-6 victory over Toledo

The Flyers (5-14) battered the Rockets (3-18-1) early and often in the fifth win over season for UD.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
  • Top of 2nd – Toledo opened the game when a Dayton error resulted in two runs scoring. An RBI single to left then made it a three-run game. Dayton 0, Toledo 3
  • Bottom of 2nd – The Flyers answered with a pair of runs on an RBI groundout by Mitch Coughlin and an RBI single to short by Brad Burkhart. Robbie Doring then put the Flyers on top with a two-run home run to left-center. Dayton 4, Toledo 3
  • Bottom of 3rd – Aaron Huesman hit a towering solo home run to left-center to add to Dayton's lead. Nick Ryan then followed suit with a three-run shot to left. Dayton 8, Toledo 3
  • Bottom of 4th – The Flyers got another run in the fourth as Doring scored from first on a Toledo error. Dayton 9, Toledo 3
  • Top of 5th – The Rockets earned a run back in the next frame with an RBI single to left. Dayton 9, Toledo 4
  • Bottom of 5th – Mitch Coughlin put the Flyers back up six with an RBI single to left. Dayton 10, Toledo 4
  • Bottom of 6th – Huesman plated his second run of the game with an RBI single to right. A balk by the Toledo pitcher then resulted in another UD run. Dayton 12, Toledo 4
  • Top of 7th – Toledo scored again in the seventh with an RBI single to right with two outs. Dayton 12, Toledo 5
  • Bottom of 8th – The Flyers got two more runs on a two-run home run by Mark Giesler. Dayton 14, Toledo 5
  • Top of 9th – Toledo got a single run, but it was too little, too late. Dayton 14, Toledo 6

KEY STATS
  • The Flyers totaled 11 hits in the game, including two each from Ryan, Doring, Giesler, and Huesman. All four of those Flyers also homered in the game.
  • Ryan drove in three to lead UD while Doring, Huesman, Giesler, and Coughlin each plated a pair.
  • Starter Tyler Henry (W, 1-0) pitched the first two innings as scheduled, giving up two earned runs on four hits in his first career start.
  • Danny Hentz pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief before Ben Polansky came on to pitch 1 2/3 shutout innings. Austin Cline tossed the seventh and Sam Brunner threw the eighth. Chad Phenis closed the game out in the ninth.
