DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team dropped a 5-3 decision to Saint Louis University Sunday in the series finale.
The Flyers (5-17, 0-3 A-10) lost all three games against the conference foe Billikens (12-12, 3-0 A-10) this weekend, despite making a late surge in the showdown on Sunday.
SCORING BREAKDOWN- Top of 1st – Saint Louis led things off with a solo home run off the scoreboard in left. Dayton 0, Saint Louis 1
- Top of 2nd – The Billikens got another solo shot in the second, doubling their lead. Dayton 0, Saint Louis 2
- Top of 9th – Saint Louis got another trio of runs after loading the bases and four hits, including two RBI singles and a fielder's choice. Dayton 0, Saint Louis 5
- Bottom of 9th – Dayton broke up the shutout with a solo home run by Robbie Doring, his seventh of the season. Sustersic then ripped a two-run triple to center to pull the Flyers within two runs. Dayton 3, Saint Louis 5
KEY STATS- The Flyers totaled nine hits in the game with two each coming from Doring, Sustersic, and Connor Echols.
- Sustersic drove in a pair while Doring plated one.
- Dayton left only six runners stranded while forcing SLU to leave 11 on base.
- Starter Austin Cline (L, 1-1) threw six strong innings, giving up just two runs on six hits while fanning four, but was saddled with the loss.
- Reliver Kevin Piersol came out of the bullpen and threw two innings while Masashi Sakamoto came in for the ninth.
