FLYERS POWER PAST COLONELS 5-2 TUESDAY

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team won its third game in the last six at home with a 5-2 victory over Eastern Kentucky Tuesday.

The Flyers (6-17) defeated a talented Colonels team (11-14) with two runs each in the third and fourth innings.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
  • Bottom of 3rdGlenn Jones drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Pat Meehan for the first run of the game. Aaron Huesman then followed up with a sacrifice fly to center, doubling the Flyers' lead. Dayton 2, EKU 0
  • Bottom of 4th – Jones drove in two more with a two-run double to right-center in the fourth, extending Dayton's advantage to four runs. Dayton 4, EKU 0
  • Top of 7th – Eastern Kentucky broke up the shutout with a sacrifice fly to center. A Flyer error then allowed another run to score, cutting the margin in half. Dayton 4, EKU 2
  • Bottom of 7th – The Flyers got a run back in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI single to right by Matt Poland. Dayton 5, EKU 2

KEY STATS
  • Dayton managed 10 hits in the game, the sixth double-digit hit game for the Flyers this season.
  • UD was led by Glenn Jones, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a walk while Robbie Doring added three hits and two runs scored. Huesman and Poland provided the other RBI.
  • Starter Mason Kutruff (W, 1-3) had a productive outing with no earned runs allowed on five hits while striking out five in seven innings of work.
  • Tyler Henry struck out the lone batter he faced in the eighth before Ben Polansky (S, 1) closed the door with 1 2/3 perfect innings of relief.
  • With five errors in the game, it was a season-high for the Flyers defensively.
