DAYTON SUFFERS 7-3 LOSS AT MIAMI WEDNESDAY

OXFORD, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team tied the game up in the fourth, but gave up four unanswered runs in the 7-3 loss on the road at Miami Wednesday.

The Flyers (6-18) split their regular season series with the RedHawks (10-13) after taking game one at home earlier this year.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
  • Bottom of 1st – Miami opened the scoring in the first frame with an RBI single to left-center. A sacrifice fly to right doubled the advantage for the hosts before an RBI groundout made it a three-run game. Dayton 0, Miami 3
  • Top of 2nd – The Flyers answered with an RBI single in the second from Cam Silva. Dayton 1, Miami 3
  • Top of 4th – Dayton managed to tie the game up at 3-3 with a two-run single to left by Nick Ryan. Dayton 3, Miami 3
  • Bottom of 5th – The RedHawks took the lead once again with a three-run home run to left. Dayton 3, Miami 6
  • Bottom of 6th – Miami got another run in the sixth on a wild pitch. Dayton 3, Miami 7

KEY STATS
  • The Flyers out-hit the RedHawks 8-5 in the contest, but left five men on base. All eight hits came from a different Dayton player. Connor Echols, Glenn Jones, and Mark Giesler doubled while Ryan drove in two and Silva plated one.
  • Starter Danny Hentz lasted 2/3 of an inning, giving up three runs on two hits before giving way to the bullpen.
  • The Flyers used six different pitchers in the game with A.J. Hemmelgarn (L, 0-1) suffering the loss after allowing two runs on one hit and four walks in two innings of work.
  • Relievers Tyler Henry, Sam Brunner, and Kevin Piersol had shutout performances for Dayton.
  • Both teams had eight strikeouts offensively, but Dayton walked nine Miami batters compared to drawing zero from the RedHawks' pitchers.
