Box Score 2 OXFORD, Ohio – The University of Dayton traveled to south on Friday evening to take part in a double header against IUPUI and Miami of Ohio, earning a split on the day with an exciting 4-3 win over IUPUI and then suffering a 7-2 setback to Miami at the MU Softball Stadium.
Game One – IUPUIScoring BreakdownTop 1st – The Jaguars took little time to get on the board, getting a double, triple and sacrifice fly in the first four batters to take a 2-0 lead.
Bottom 3rd – Dayton freshman
Lisa Tassi drove home a pair of runs with a single down the right field line that brought in Kirsten
Rebekkah Potter and
Kirsten Bartlett and evened the game, 2-2.
Top 5th – With two aboard, an errant Dayton throw allowed IUPUI to grab a lead at 3-2.
Bottom 7th – Senior
Katelyn Gibson led off the inning with a single and pinch runner
Kelly Fitzgerald moved around to third on a sacrifice and a groundout. After a
Hannah DeSalvo walk, the table was set for Tassi again. The rookie laced a single to left field to tie up the game, 3-3.
Bottom 7th – Junior
Katie Ryan plopped a single into short right center to score DeSalvo from second base and give the Flyers a walk-off, 4-3 win.
Key StatsLisa Tassi finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs driven in. The three RBI were the first two of Tassi's career.
It was also the first multi-hit performance of the year for the freshman.
Freshman pitcher
Jessica Gilliam picked up her third win of the season and also laid down the crucial sacrifice bunt in the 7th inning to move Fitzgerald to second base.
Game Two – Miami (OH)Scoring BreakdownBottom 1st – After reaching on an error, and RBI single put Miami on top early, 1-0.
Bottom 3rd – Miami's leadoff hitter Michaela Schlattman launched her fourth home run of the season to give the home team a 2-0 advantage.
Bottom 4th – A bases loaded wild pitch tacked another on for the hosts, giving Miami a 3-0 lead.
Bottom 5th – The Redhawks got two aboard with two outs and promptly followed with a three-run home run to push the MU lead to 6-0.
Top 6th – Sophomore
Jaclyn Kweder crushed her first career home run to the opposite field to keep the Flyers alive and make the score 6-1.
Bottom 6th – Miami got the run right back in the home half of the inning, putting the score at 7-1.
Top 7th –
Kayla Haberstich came home to score the final UD run of the game on a Kweder groundout, bringing the final score to 7-2.
Key StatsKweder finished the game with two RBIs, her highest total for the season.
