DAYTON, Oho – The University of Dayton baseball team pulled within a run in the bottom of the ninth inning, but was unable to complete the comeback as the Flyers fell to St. Bonaventure, 4-3.
The Flyers (11-23, 3-7 A-10) dropped the series opener to the Bonnies (15-11-1, 3-4 A-10) on a perfect day at Woerner Field.
SCORING BREAKDOWN- Top of 3rd – The visitors St. Bonaventure took the initial lead with two runs in the third inning. Dayton 0, SBU 2
- Bottom of 5th – Dayton got a run back in the fifth with an RBI groundout by Connor Echols. Dayton 1, SBU 2
- Bottom of 7th – The Flyers tied the game up at 2-2 with Aaron Huesman's RBI single to left, scoring Cale Dineen from third. Dayton 2, SBU 2
- Top of 9th – The Bonnies took the lead back in the top of the ninth with an RBI double, putting Dayton back down a run. Another RBI single then made it a two-run game. Dayton 2, SBU 4
- Bottom of 9th – Dayton got a run back in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI single by Nick Ryan. Dayton 3, SBU 4
KEY STATS- The Flyers managed six hits in the game and drew six free passes, leaving 11 runners stranded.
- Huesman, Echols, and Ryan provided the RBI for UD while each collecting a hit.
- The Flyers benefited from three Bonnies errors while committing just one in the contest.
- Starter Charlie Dant threw eight strong innings, allowing two runs, neither earned, on five hits while striking out a pair.
- Reliever Sam Brunner (L, 2-4) gave up the go-ahead runs to the Bonnies in the ninth on three hits.
