DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team suffered a 6-3 loss in the second game of the series vs. St. Bonaventure on Saturday.
The Flyers (11-24, 3-8 A-10) lost the second straight game to the Bonnies (16-11-1, 4-4 A-10) with the visitors already winning the series.
SCORING BREAKDOWN- Top of 2nd – St. Bonaventure opened the scoring in the second with an unearned run off a two-out RBI single to left. A two-run double then made it a three-run game. Dayton 0, SBU 3
- Top of 4th – The Bonnies added to their lead in the fourth with an RBI single to right. Dayton 0, SBU 4
- Top of 5th – SBU got another run the next inning on a fielder's choice play at the plate. Dayton 0, SBU 5
- Bottom of 6th- Nick Ryan put Dayton on the board in the sixth with an RBI single to left, scoring Robbie Doring from second. Dayton 1, SBU 5
- Top of 7th – St. Bonaventure got the run back in the seventh on a wild pitch. Dayton 1, SBU 6
- Bottom of 7th – The Flyers' rally attempt started in the eighth with a two-run single to right by Nick Weybright. Dayton 3, SBU 6
KEY STATS- The Flyers matched the Bonnies with nine hits in the game, including two each from Ryan and Weybright, who also provided the RBI for Dayton.
- UD left nine runners stranded and kept 11 SBU players on the base paths.
- Starter Zach Beaver (L, 2-6) went five innings, giving up five runs, only one earned, on seven hits while striking out six.
- Reliever Masashi Sakamoto threw the sixth and seventh frames before Tyler Henry came in to pitch scoreless eighth and ninth innings.
