DAYTON HOLDS OFF GW FOR 2-1 VICTORY

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team took a late lead in game two of the series and held on for a 2-1 win over George Washington Saturday.

The Flyers (14-26, 5-9 A-10) squared off in a pitchers' duel with the Colonials (18-23, 7-4 A-10) and came out on top.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
  • Bottom of 3rd – The Flyers opened the scoring in the third with a sacrifice fly to right by Sam Claycamp, his first RBI of the season. Dayton 1, GW 0
  • Top of 8th – GW tied the game up in the eighth with an RBI single to right. Dayton 1, GW 1
  • Bottom of 8th – The tie did not last long though as Connor Echols ripped a two-out RBI single over the shortstop's head, scoring Cale Dineen from second. Dayton 2, GW 1

KEY STATS
  • The Flyers won despite being outhit in the game 7-6.
  • Echols provided the crucial RBI for Dayton with Claycamp plating the initial run.
  • Dineen went 2-for-3 with both of the runs scored while Nick Weybright also had two hits.
  • Claycamp earned his first start of the season and drove in his first RBI of the season.
  • Starter Zach Beaver had arguably his best outing of the season, tossing 7 1/3 innings, giving up just one run on six hits while keeping the Flyers in the ball game.
  • Reliever Tyler Henry (W, 4-0) was just as effective out of the bullpen, pitching 1 1/3 perfect innings for his team-leading fourth win of the year.
