FLYERS SWEEP TERRIERS IN DOUBLEHEADER FRIDAY

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The University of Dayton baseball team picked up wins in both games at Wofford Friday in South Carolina.

The Flyers (16-28) defeated the Terriers (25-20) 6-4 in game one and 9-5 in game two.

Game 1 – Dayton 6, Wofford 4

SCORING BREAKDOWN
  • Top of 1stRobbie Doring opened the scoring for Dayton with an RBI single. He then scored on a double steal attempt to make it 2-0 in favor of the Flyers. Dayton 2, Wofford 0
  • Top of 2ndSam Sustersic added to Dayton's lead with an RBI double to right-center. Dayton 3, Wofford 0
  • Top of 3rd – Dayton piled on another run in the third with an RBI groundout by Aaron Huesman. Dayton 4, Wofford 0
  • Bottom of 3rd – Wofford got a run back in the third with a sacrifice fly. Dayton 4, Wofford 1

KEY STATS
  • Dayton out-hit Wofford in game one, 11-9. Sustersic, Silva, and Ryan each collected two hits while Sustersic drove in a pair and Silva doubled twice and scored two runs.
  • Starter Charlie Dant (W, 3-4) went 5 2/3 innings with one run allowed on four hits while fanning three. With a strikeout in the bottom of the third, Charlie Dant recorded his 200th career strikeout as a Dayton Flyer.
  • Reliever Sam Brunner threw 2 1/3 innings before Kevin Piersol (S, 3) shut the door in the ninth for his third save of the season.

  • Top of 4th – Dayton got another run in the fourth with a double steal that allowed Matt Poland to score from third. Dayton 3, Wofford 1

KEY STATS
  • Once again, the Flyers out-hit the Terriers 12-9 with two hits each coming from Weybright, Huesman, Jones, and Prine. Doring joined Weybright with two RBI each.
  • Prine's home run in the third was the first of his Dayton career.
  • Starter Zach Beaver pitched six innings, giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out five, but did not factor into the decision.
  • Reliever Austin Cline (W, 2-3) got the win after throwing two shutout innings before Ben Polansky blanked the Terriers in the ninth.
