FLYERS FALL IN FINALE AT VCU

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Dayton baseball team lost the series finale at VCU Sunday, 5-3.

The Flyers (7-20, 1-5 A-10) lost the series to the Rams (18-10, 5-1 A-10) two games to one.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
  • Top of 1st – Mark Giesler put Dayton ahead early with an RBI single to left. Dayton 1, VCU 0
  • Bottom of 1st – VCU evened the score with an RBI single of its own in the bottom half of the opening inning. Dayton 1, VCU 1
  • Bottom of 3rd – The Rams took the lead with an RBI double in the third frame. Dayton 1, VCU 2
  • Bottom of 5th – VCU added to its lead with a pair of runs in the fifth on two sacrifice flies. Dayton 1, VCU 4

  • Dayton totaled seven hits in the game while allowing nine to VCU.
  • Giesler led the way with a pair of RBI while Glenn Jones went 3-for-4 with an RBI as well. Connor Echols scored twice and Nick Ryan went 2-for-4 with a double for the cause.
  • Starter Austin Cline (L, 1-2) pitched five innings for the Flyers with three earned runs allowed on seven hits.
  • Relievers Tyler Henry and Ben Polansky came on for UD and combined for the final three innings.
