FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Dayton baseball team won the series opener against George Mason on Friday, 9-2. The Flyers (9-20, 2-5) picked up their second win in Atlantic 10 play. The Patriots (9-21, 1-6) have now lost four of their last five games.

SCORING BREAKDOWN

• Bottom of 1^st – George Mason got on the scoreboard first with an RBI single to left. Dayton 0, George Mason 1.
• Top of 2^nd – Mark Giesler started the second inning with a solo home run to left field. Cameron Silva doubled later in the inning, and he scored on an RBI single by Mitch Coughlin. Dayton 2, George Mason 1.
• Top of 3^rd - Giesler added another RBI to his total with a groundout that scored Robbie Doring. With two outs in the inning, Nick Ryan hit a single that brought in Glenn Jones. Later in the inning, Matt Poland reached on an error, and Ryan scored on the play.  Dayton 5, George Mason 1.
• Top of 5^th – Dayton added another run on an RBI groundout by Cameron Silva which scored Giesler. Dayton 6, George Mason 1.
• Top of 8^th – The Flyers increased their lead again, as Coughlin scored on a double by Connor Echols. Dayton 7, George Mason 1.
• Top of the 9^th – Dayton tacked on two more runs on a double to left center by pinch hitter Nick Weybright. Dayton 9, George Mason 1.
• Bottom of the 9^th – George Mason scored the final run of the game on a single to left field. Dayton 9, George Mason 2.

• Dayton finished with 14 hits, which tied a season high. Nine different batters recorded a hit for the Flyers.
