FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Dayton baseball team fell to the George Mason Patriots on Saturday afternoon, 8-2. The game had been scoreless going into the seventh inning, until George Mason scored eight runs in the bottom half of the inning.
This was the second game of a three-game series. The Flyers won the first game, 9-2, on Friday. Dayton (9-21, 2-6) will face the Patriots (10-21, 2-6) on Sunday afternoon in the series finale.
SCORING BREAKDOWN- Bottom of 7th – George Mason scored eight runs on eight hits, which included a double, followed by six singles and a home run. Dayton 0, George Mason 8.
- Top of 8th – Robbie Doring doubled to center field, and he scored on a single by Connor Echols. Dayton 1, George Mason 8.
- Top of 9th – The Flyers loaded the bases in the final inning, and Nick Weybright's sacrifice fly to center field scored Cale Dineen. Dayton 2, George Mason 8.
KEY STATS- Dayton had eight hits and did not commit an error during the game.
- Starter Zach Beaver (L, 2-5) pitched six scoreless innings, before allowing six runs in the seventh inning.
- Tyler Henry came on to relieve Beaver in the seventh inning.
- Masashi Sakamoto had a strong outing out of the bullpen, pitching a perfect eighth inning.
- Doring led the Flyers offensively, batting 2-4 with a double and a run scored.
