#UDWSOC OPENS 2016 SEASON AT CINCINNATI

• The University of Dayton women's soccer team (0-0-0) opens up its 2016 regular season at Cincinnati (0-0-0) this Friday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. at Gettler Stadium. 
• Dayton is 15-15-2 all-time in its season openers, including 4-8-1 when opening the season on the road. 

FLYER FACTS
• The Flyers finished the 2015 season with a 10-9-1 overall record and an 8-2-0 mark in the Atlantic 10, finishing second in the league's regular season standings.
• Dayton lost two seniors to graduation who accounted for 52 percent of the Flyers' goal scoring in 2015: Ashley Campbell (17) and Nicole Waters (6); 23 of the 44 goals scored. They also accounted for 53 percent of UD's assists last year: Waters (17) and Campbell (9); 26 of 49. 
• Dayton's leading returning goal scorer is junior Alexis Kiehl (8 goals), who was named to the 2016 A-10 Preseason Team. She was a First Team All-Atlantic 10 forward in 2015 and a second team selection in 2014 as a freshman.
Kaelyn Johns started every game in goal as a true freshman last year. She finished her rookie campaign with 79 saves and a 1.65 GAA. 

THE SERIES
• The Bearcats hold a 12-6-1 all-time record, including a 6-3-0 mark in contests held in Cincinnati.
• The Flyers have won the last two meetings, including the last match they faced off; a 3-1 UD victory on Aug. 30, 2013 at Baujan Field.

LAST TIME OUT
• Dayton scored three unanswered goals to defeat Marshall 3-2 in an exhibition match in Huntington, W. Va. on Friday, Aug. 12. Flyer goals were scored by freshmen Madeleine Morrissey and Alex Powell, and senior Meghan Blank.

UP NEXT
•  Dayton plays at Ohio University this Sunday, Aug. 21 at 1 p.m.  Then the Flyers will have a four-match home stand at Baujan Field. 

FLYERS ARE FAVORED AGAIN
• For the eighth consecutive year, the Dayton women's soccer team has been chosen as the 2016 Atlantic 10 Conference preseason favorite in a vote conducted by the league's 14 head coaches. The Flyers earned 185 votes and eight first place votes to take the top spot in the rankings.

DAYTON'S A-10 BACKGROUND 
• Dayton has won the A-10 Tournament Championship more than any other team in the conference: nine times (1996, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014). 
• UD has also won or shared 11 Atlantic 10 Regular Season titles (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2013). The next closest is Massachusetts with five. 

KIEHL EARNS PRESEASON RECOGNITION
• For the second consecutive season, Flyer forward Alexis Kiehl was named to the A-10 Preseason team.

CINCINNATI CONNECTIONS
• Nine Flyers are from the Cincinnati area: senior Sarah Byrne, juniors Abby Weigel, Alexis and Kaitlynn Kiehl, and freshmen Hanna Merritt, Caroline Mink, Madeleine Morrissey, Alex Powell, and Sara Robertson

TERRIFIC TUCKER
• Flyer Head Coach Mike Tucker is in his 22nd season at UD and has amassed an overall record of 304-114-30 overall and 163-31-11 vs. A-10 opponents. 
• UD's 3-1 win over Fordham on Oct. 18, 2015 at Baujan Field marked the 300th career victory for Coach Mike Tucker. He is one of just 17 active coaches to have won 300 matches in NCAA Division I Women's Soccer.

FLYER SUCCESS 
• The Dayton women's soccer program owns an overall record of 428-181-47 since it became a varsity program in 1984. 
• The Flyers made NCAA Tournament appearances in 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2014, advancing to the second round in both 2009 and 2010 and to the Sweet Sixteen in 2001. 

FANTASTIC FRESHMEN 
• Dayton's freshmen have a history of making an impact. 
• The Flyers have had at least one representative on the A-10 All-Rookie team every year since it started in 2000.
Beth Kamphaus was named to the All-Rookie team in 2015 after coming on strong in conference play.
Kaelyn Johns started every match in goal for the Flyers in 2015. 
Nadia Pestell started 19 matches for the Flyers on defense and logged 1,474 minutes. 
• In 2014, Alexis Kiehl and Nicolette Griesinger were both named to the A-10 All-Rookie team. 
• Kiehl was the third-leading scorer for the Flyers and Griesinger started every match and led UD in minutes played with 2,135.
