FAIRBORN, Ohio - In the Holiday Inn Invitational finale, Dayton volleyball took down host Wright State in straight sets, 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-22), Saturday night at McLin Gymnasium. Junior Amber Erhahon was named to the All-Tournament Team for her play over the weekend.
STATS OF THE MATCH
• Sophomore Lauren Bruns led the Dayton attack with a career-high 19 kills to go with five digs while Erhahon tallied 12 digs and hit at .688 for the match.
• Sophomore Kendyll Brown also recorded a career-high in kills with nine and also stuffed four blocks. Junior Jessica Sloan had nine kills and nine digs.
• Freshman Jamie Peterson led the Flyers' block with five while also laying down four kills and passing two digs. Sophomore Margo Wolf recorded her second-straight match with 20+ digs (22).
• Wright State was led by Katie Klusman with nine kills and 13 digs. The Raiders' Jessie Thornton passed a team-best 15 digs.
SET-BY-SET
• Set One: Dayton was up 4-2 on Wright State after a double-block by Peterson and Brown but the Raiders surged ahead, 7-4, on the strength of a 5-0 spurt. The Flyers answered by rattling off three to even the set at 7-7. Wright State continued to maintain the lead and was ahead three, 15-12, at the media timeout but another Peterson-Brown block knotted the score at 16. A kill from Brown gave UD a 21-18 advantage and, on the third set point, the Flyers took the set, 25-23.
• Set Two: Back-to-back Raider kills set the score at 10-7 in favor of Wright State but Dayton rallied for seven-straight points to pull ahead, 14-10. Peterson and Brown connected again at the net to block the Raider attack and the Flyers were up five, 18-13. The UD lead was five again at 22-17 and the Flyers scored the last three points of the set to take the frame, 25-17.
• Set Three: Wright State went ahead 4-1 to open the third set but Dayton used a 3-0 run to get up one on the Raiders, 6-5. Bruns tallied three kills during UD's next 6-0 spurt to set the score at 12-8 in favor of the Flyers but the Raiders continued to hang around. WSU was within two several times, including 16-14 following a UD attack error, and again at 23-21. Peterson set up match point with a strong swing and Erhahon laid down the set-winning kill as UD took the game, 25-22, and the match, 3-0.
UP NEXT
The Flyers will open the home portion of their schedule on Tuesday, Aug. 30. Dayton will play host to Miami (Ohio) at 7 p.m. at Frericks Center. Prior to the match, the newly renovated gym and Hausfeld Court will be dedicated and blessed.
