EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The University of Dayton volleyball team swept Evansville, 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-13), Saturday afternoon in both teams' second match of UE's Dunn Hospitality Tournament. Dayton closes out the weekend against Austin Peay at 5 p.m.
The win improves UD's record to 9-0 while UE falls to 1-7 on the season.
STATS OF THE MATCH
• Junior Jessica Sloan led the team with a match-high 16 kills while junior Amber Erhahon added 11 kills for UD.
• Freshman Jamie Peterson recorded eight kills while hitting at a blistering .583 and fellow freshman Sierra Pla recorded her first career kill on her first attempt of the match.
• Junior Jane Emmenecker collected 33 assists and sophomore Margo Wolf was the only passer of the match to reach double-digit digs with 10.
• Evansville was led by Rocio Fortuny with eight kills and Jelena Merselie with 22 assists.
SET-BY-SET
• Set One: Dayton found itself ahead of Evansville, 6-2, after back-to-back Purple Ace errors. UE kept it close and was within one at 18-17 but UD rattled off three straight to push the advantage to four, 21-17. Evansville put together a late-set rally, scoring five-consecutive points to set the score at 23-22 in favor of the Aces. Dayton answered by recording the next three points to win the set, 25-23.
• Set Two: The fourth tie of set two came at 4-4 but Dayton rattled off six points, jumping out to the 10-4 advantage. The Flyers cruised through the remainder of the frame, leading by as many as eight several times, including at 22-14. Evansville scored one more point before Dayton put it away at 25-15 to take a two-set match lead.
• Set Three: The third set was never in question and Dayton reached 15 on a kill from Sloan to put the Flyers up eight. A 3-0 Flyer spurt pushed the lead to 11 at 22-11 and UD finished off UE, 25-13, to take the match, 3-0.
