Dayton, OHIO - The University of Dayton men's golf team will start the season on Monday at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, hosted by Marshall University. Last year the team finished tied for fifth and were led by
Tripp French who finished six under par.
The 54-hole tournament will be held at the Berry Hills Country Club in Charleston, West Virginia. The teams will play on Monday and Tuesday with tee times scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on each day. Golfers will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. There will be 16 schools competing including Virginia Tech, Wichita State, Belmont, Ohio and others.
Dayton returns 10 players from a year ago including seniors
Nick Paxson,
Kevin Wargo and
Caleb Wolters. Juniors
Phillip Johnson,
Brendan Keating,
P.J. Malik and
Erron Vandemore also return along with sophomores
Jake Gilkison and
Ryan Flick.
Paxson for the second year in a row, had a team-low average of 73.55. Head coach
Gip Hoagland begins his eighth season at Dayton. He has added one newcomer in
Domenic Maricocchi for the upcoming season.
Domenic comes to Dayton from St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He helped lead the Bombers to a 2015 OHSAA State Championship in 2015. As a senior, Domenic was named Second Team All-State, First Team Southwest Ohio, Second Team All-Conference and was named the team MVP.
