Dayton Gets 13th Win with Sweep of Southern Illinois Saturday Night

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton volleyball team claimed its 13th win of the season after defeating Southern Illinois 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-22) Saturday night. UD went 2-1 over the weekend in the Flyer Classic held at Frericks Center. Junior Jessica Sloan led the Flyer attack with 13 kills as one of four players with double-digit kills.

Dayton improves to 13-1 overall while Southern Illinois moves to 8-5 on the season.

STATS OF THE MATCH
• Sloan recorded a double-double with 11 digs to go with her match-high 13 kills. Junior Jane Emmenecker also posted a double-double with 40 assists and 10 digs.
• Junior Amber Erhahon turned in 10 kills while hitting .533 and she also tallied five blocks for UD. Sophomore Lauren Bruns and freshman Jamie Peterson each chipped in 10 kills apiece as well.
• Sophomore Margo Wolf was the team's leading passer with a match-high 16 digs.
• Southern Illinois was led by Andrea Estrada with 12 kills and Mariana Pilon with 14 digs.

SET-BY-SET
• Set One: Southern Illinois came out swinging, quickly going up 6-1 on Dayton to open the match. The Flyers turned the tables and were able to take a 9-8 lead on the strength of a 5-0 run. The Salukis rallied to take a four-point advantage at 17-13 but the Flyers were right back in it at 17-16 following a 3-0 spurt. SIU was up two, 23-21, but UD closed out the set with a 4-0 run to take the frame, 25-23.
• Set Two: After back-to-back kills, Southern Illinois was holding a 7-4 lead and was up four, 10-6, following a kill from Kolby Meeks. After trailing by as many as six, Dayton sprang into action, rattling off seven straight to get in front, 19-16. The Salukis held one set point but the Flyers to the game, 25-21, after a kill from Bruns.
• Set Three: Dayton jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the third set and the Flyers were up five at 9-4 following a Bruns-Erhahon assisted block. SIU cut the lead to one, 14-13, but UD forged ahead and was back up five at 18-13. Dayton reached match point at 24-20 and Southern Illinois held twice. In the end, Sloan recorded the game's final point with a kill as UD won the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-0.

UP NEXT
Dayton will remain at home next week as it opens Atlantic 10 Conference play Friday at Frericks Center. UD will match up against George Washington with first serve set for 7 p.m. Admission is free.
