XAVIER TOPS WOMEN'S SOCCER 3-1

Breaks Flyers' 14-Match Winning Streak Over The Musketeers

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's soccer team fell to Xavier 3-1 Friday night at Baujan Field. The Flyers fall to 0-4-0, while the Musketeers improve to 3-1-1. 

STATS OF THE MATCH
• Xavier had 14 shots to Dayton's 12, but the Flyers had seven shots on frame, compared to just four for XU. 
• Dayton led 4-3 on corner kicks. 
• Dayton freshman Madeleine Morrissey scored her first collegiate goal in this match. Freshman Caroline Mink earned her first collegiate start. 
• Xavier's win broke Dayton's 14-game winning streak over the Musketeers. 
• The is the fourth consecutive match that Dayton has scored just one goal. 

DAYTON GOAL
• 64th minute –Morrissey scored on a one-touch volley with an assist from senior Meghan Blank who dribbled to the end line and found Morrissey in front of the goal (Xavier 2, Dayton 1).

XAVIER GOALS
• 8th minute – The Musketeers started the scoring on a free kick. Maddie Tierney took the kick from 23 yards out; Ellie Eckerle scored her first goal of the season with a run in the box and a header to the far post. (Xavier 1, Dayton 0).
• 58th minute – Samantha Dewey dribbled past two defenders and then beat the keeper with a shot to the upper 90. (Xavier 2, Dayton 0). 
• 83rd minute – Dewey scored her second goal to put the match away, with a laser of a shot from outside the box. The assist came from Ellie Eckerle. (Xavier 3, Dayton 1).

Dayton hosts Purdue this Sunday, Sept. 4 at 1 p.m. at Baujan Field.
