KETTERING, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's cross country team took second place in the NCAA Division I race of the 2016 Rich Davis Flyer 5K.
 
The Flyers had 42 points and finished behind regionally-ranked Louisville's 24 points.

Taylor Vernot was Dayton's top finisher, taking second place overall. Six Dayton women ran personal records in the race. 

"I'm very proud of the way our team performed today," said Director of Women's Track & Field and Cross Country Sarah Haveman. "I think the greatest thing was having our group of women come out and execute a plan, run confidently and run poised. We have some things to work on but that's what the first race is for. As a whole, this has got to be one of the best performances we've had in an opening race. I'm also really proud of how the freshmen carried themselves today."
