Women's Soccer Clinches Final Spot In A-10 Championship

Flyers Defeated Massachusetts, 3-1, On The Road

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Dayton women's soccer team clinched a berth to the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship with a 3-1 win at Massachusetts today at Rudd Field.

This will mark UD's 21st appearance in the A-10 Championship, earning a berth every year since becoming a member of the conference.

UD is now 9-8-2 overall and 4-4-2 in the conference play, while the Minutewomen drop to 7-9-2 and 4-5-1. UMass just missed making the A-10 Championship; a win vs. the Flyers would have ensured UMass a spot in the tournament.

Last season, the Flyers defeated Massachusetts 3-1 to claim the No. 7 seed in the A-10 tournament.

KEY STATS
•    Jordan Pauley, Keagin Collie, and Alexis Kiehl all notched goals for the Flyers.
•    Dayton led 2-0 at the half.
•    UMass scored in the 80th minute.
•    The Minutewomen outshot UD, 12-11.
•    Kaelyn Johns had six saves in goal for the Flyers.

COACH ERIC GOLZ'S QUOTE
Today was a good day for us, we continued to show some positive progress and resolve in getting the result that we needed to continue our season.  We managed the game well and put them on their back foot with two first-half goals, which is vital to control momentum in road matches. We know we will have to be sharper next weekend, but are excited about the opportunity for another match at La Salle.

UP NEXT
Dayton will play the No. 1 seed La Salle in the A-10 quarterfinals this Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. in Philadelphia at McCarthy Stadium.
