LEESBURG, Va. – The University of Dayton men's cross country team defended its conference title at the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship Saturday morning in Virginia.

The Flyers had four runners in the top 15 and powered their way to their second consecutive A-10 Championship. Juniors Chris Negri and Spencer Danielson, sophomore J.P. Flavin, and senior Tyler Adgalanis all earned All-Conference honors. That ties last season with the most ever for the Flyers. Head coach Jason Ordway was named A-10 Coach of the Year twice on Saturday, making it two years in a row for him as well.

Dayton was the first men's cross country only program to win a conference title in NCAA Division I history last season, and added to that with another trophy this year.

"The men ran an incredible team race today. We had a team strategy and they executed it flawlessly. We set out that we wanted to repeat from the championship from last year. We had a plan in place and they really went together as a team to go out and get it. I'm really proud of that effort. JP really stepped up for us today, moving into the No. 2 spot, finishing right behind Chris. Those two finished back-to-back. Spencer and Tyler ran really smart races and finished side-by-side as well. We had two nice groups together. Tom really stepped up today and had an awesome finish as our fifth man. It really sealed the team championship. He stepped up as a senior and pulled through for us when we really needed it for the title. Luke and Jordan sealed things off by getting those placer points for us. We were able to go for the back-to-back titles. We did everything like we needed to. It was a tough course, a true cross country course, had a couple water jumps, had a bunch of hills, and a couple of really steep ones that broke pace and the guys ran them really smart. It was a very mature effort by the guys. We were happy to get the title."
