LEESBURG, Va. – The University of Dayton women's cross country team won the 2017 All-Atlantic 10 Championship today at the Oatlands Plantation. Head Coach
Jason Ordway was named the A-10 Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
Five Flyers finished in the Top 20, paced by junior
Taylor Vernot, who finished third in 17:53.9; she was the top finisher for all juniors.
Senior
Emily Leonard was fourth in 17:56.9.
Chloe Flora was the top sophomore finisher in the race, taking sixth place in 18:04.2, while junior
Emily Borchers was ninth in a time of 18:14.9. They all four earned A-10 All-Conference honors.
This is the third race the Flyers have won this year. UD also won the Queen City Invitational and the All-Ohio Championship.
The UD men's team won the 2017 A-10 Championship as well this year. It marks the first time since 2012 that the same school won both the men's and women's cross country championships in the same year.

Emily Leonard ran really well up in the front. They got out very smart in the race and were able to seal up All-Conference honors.
Emily Borchers ran an incredible race. She was smart, moved up in the race, and passed people when she needed to.
Grace McDonald and
Nicole Steinbicker finished up strong for us. Everybody came together on the one day we needed to. They have been frustrated in the past on where they have finished in this meet. They were able to get the monkey off their back and now know how to win, come together, and cover each other, and what we need to do to be successful. They really showed that today. Our experience of having some upperclassmen up there really showed through and it's exciting for the younger student-athletes to get to see that.

The Flyers will compete at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional 6K Friday, Nov. 10 in Terre Haute, Ind. at the Lavern Gibson Championship.
